Yeti Nepali Association, the oldest Nepali organisation in Europe, made history this year by reaching a record 687 members.

Following the oath-taking ceremony, newly elected President Pipla Dewan expressed her commitment to prioritising action over words. She stated her dedication to serving the community and leading the association to greater heights.

Outgoing President Dhruva KC presided over the first formal session, where he extended his gratitude to everyone who supported him during his tenure and wished the new Executive Committee success in their endeavours. The programme was inaugurated with a welcome speech by Senior Vice President Bachaspati Regmi.

In his address, Mr KC highlighted that the Yeti Nepali Association is a non-partisan, independent, and disciplined social organisation for the Nepali diaspora in the UK. He noted that despite the challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, the 29th Executive Committee had taken significant steps towards achieving its goals.

General Secretary Dr Mukunda Bastola presented the organisational report, while Treasurer Dev Gurung delivered the financial report. Dr Bastola outlined several key initiatives, including upgrading the website to allow online access to all services, providing drinking water for 31 households in Sindhupalchok, distributing various materials during the COVID-19 pandemic, coordinating with NRN UK to purchase an oxygen plant, and organising a science programme in collaboration with the Life Sciences UK involving 1,000 participants.

Members Sureshjung Shah, Dr Krishna Upadhyay, Shashidhar Nepal, RK Tripathi, Shankar Dahal, Bipin Nirola, and others provided various suggestions, which were incorporated into the reports and subsequently approved.

The programme featured remarks from Yeti Nepali Association’s former President and prominent physician Dr Raghav Prasad Dhital (OBE), who recalled the association’s historical significance and expressed hope that the new Executive Committee would continue its proud legacy.

Dr Dhital compared Yeti Association to the Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA), stating that just as the NRNA represents all Nepalis abroad, Yeti Association serves as a common platform for all Nepalis in the UK.

During the formal programme, Trustee Vijay Thapa clarified the establishment of Yeti Foundation, its house purchases and sales, and the current savings status.

The event also featured speeches from Dr Shyam Chand, Umesharaj Moktan, RK Tripathi, and a musical performance by Madan Thapa, who sang a song reflecting his love for Nepal. Senior Vice President Bachaspati Regmi delivered the welcome address.

The newly elected Executive Committee was honoured with certificates and ceremonial scarves by guests including NRN UK President Prem Gahatraj, former President Yogen Kshetri, senior journalist Suman Kharel, and former head of BBC Nepali Service Khagendra Nepali.
